I am a GP with a specialist interest in the management of pregnancy nausea and vomiting/hyperemesis (NVP/HG). I am a hyperemesis survivor myself and I know how hard it is to get proactive treatment, and how lost people can feel. The medications I can prescribe by telehealth, including interstate, although it will be more cost effective if you attend in person for the first appointment. The IV fluids I can provide at the clinic where I work: TBC. Unfortunately I have to charge fees for the service, but I have made every effort to keep the cost as low as possible.
Pregnancy sickness/hyperemesis management: What to expect:
We will have regular appointments 2-4 weekly where we will monitor the severity of your symptoms, either face to face or by telehealth. We will discuss the medications available, the pros and cons and safety of these medications in pregnancy, and discuss the option or need for IV fluids. We will also arrange any tests that are needed which will usually include a blood test and a urine test within the past 7 days, and repeated at 3 week intervals, or on attendance for IV fluids.
Fees: (Please note all appointments are face to face or telehealth, but to get a medicare rebate you must have been seen within the clinic in the past 12 months)
-First appointment: $70 out of pocket fee
-Other appointments: $50 out of pocket fee
-Ongoing appointments- You will need an appointment every 2-4 weeks to renew prescriptions, in order to check it is still safe to continue them, and that your symptoms are well controlled.
*Telehealth appointments can only get the Medicare rebate if they have been seen face to face in the clinic within the past 12 months so it would be more cost effective if you come for the first appointment face to face, with follow ups by telehealth if preferred.*
